Who We Are

Alyssha Duncan, Esq.

Alyssha (pronounced uh-li-shuh) is the owner of Your Family Business PLLC. She performs coaching services, serves as a parenting consultant, and offers parenting plan evaluations. She is currently a Rule 114 Qualified Neutral for Parenting Consulting services, Social Early Neutral Evaluations, and facilitative mediation in all 87 counties. Alyssha has a strong background in psychology and has been a practicing attorney since 2016.

Alyssha graduated from Purdue University's School of Science with a Bachelor of Arts in 2010. She was awarded a concentration in clinical rehabilitation, for which she was required to do extensive coursework in therapeutic techniques. She is well-versed in childhood development as well as mental health disorders and treatments. Alyssha did her capstone practicum at the Hook Center for traumatic brain injuries, where she worked with clients in both a hospital setting as well as an outpatient rehabilitation setting.

Upon graduating with her Bachelor's Degree, Alyssha attended the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, graduating in August of 2015. Alyssha then took the Illinois Bar exam and was admitted to practice in Illinois in 2016. She started her legal career serving as a plaintiff's attorney in debt collection, and while she decided that was not the career path she wanted to pursue long-term, she rapidly developed lifelong skills in working in high-conflict, emotionally-charged situations.  Alyssha later moved to Minnesota and was admitted to the Minnesota bar in October of 2019. She is also admitted to the federal bar for the District of Minnesota, as well as the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Alyssha has exclusively practiced family law during her time in Minnesota, and is known for her thorough but compassionate approach.  Alyssha has several clients who have followed her from her first position in Minnesota, and has a reputation among former clients for being willing to go the extra mile to help.

A commitment to diversity

  • Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control: Alyssha has training and hands-on experience working with parents who have experienced domestic abuse, both as perpetrators and survivors, and recognizes that refusing to mediate for these individuals actually further takes away their agency. She will work with these families in a compassionate way that allows both parents to participate in a safe and effective way.

  • Socioeconomic Status: Alyssha has a large client roster of lower-income families and understands the challenges these parents face. She is committed to helping families find solutions that fit your capabilities instead of cookie-cutter recommendations that may not be financially feasible.

  • Mental Health, Medical Health, and Substance Use Disorders: Alyssha has worked with families whose children or parents have signficant medical and/or mental health concerns, and works hard to help find creative solutions that make sense for your children. Examples include children with Autism Spectrum disorder, adjustment disorders, and developmental differences. She has a demonstrated history of meeting parents where they are, and does not judge parents based on their mental health, medical health, or substance use diagnoses.

  • LGBT+ Families and Non-Married Parents: Familes these days look much different than in past years, and deserve competent and compassionate services. Alyssha welcomes individuals from any and all familial situations, and is not afraid to approach tough topics like gender identity in an empathetic way.

  • World Cultures and Religions: Finally, Alyssha has studied and worked with numerous cultures and religions, including Hmong communities, Somalian communities, and immigrants and refugees from Central and South America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. She had a breadth of knowledge of global conflicts and humanitarian crises, and uses that information to provide as informed and judgment-free spaces as possible. Among her former clients are Christian, Muslim, and Jewish families.
